Mayfest – Liberty Hall

How long does it take before something becomes a regular feature on a calendar?  Whilst this is only the second annual MayFest event it is hoped that it will be a reoccuring feature on the Irish culture calendar over the years.  Set up to celebrate workers culture and to show that Trade Unions have a relevance in this sphere. Mayfest has a full two week line-up, with all events taking place in Liberty Hall overlooking Dublins River Liffey.

The launch is on May 1 with the annual Dublin Council of Trade Unions MayDay Parade finishing at Liberty hall for a social evening.

Trade union Banners have been a feature of unions for over a Century and there is an exhibition of this Social Fabric showing from may 2.  Banners of colour will be draped throughout the space to highlight the role this has taken in communities and unions through the past century.

On Thursday the Cle Club will have their ceol agus craic session.  There’s the wonderful Enough play on Thursday with music by Daragh McCarthy. Daragh has been releasing music a long time with his latest venture being the mighty avon jnr

On Saturday afternoon the Irish Secondary Schools Union are showcasing their work with some band performaces including the Felonies and Wolff
