To celebrate the wonderful diy pop double bill of Frankie Cosmos and Squarehead tonight in the Button Factory I asked Roy from Squarehaed for 5 songs that he’s listening to these days. Frankie Cosmos has taken several different shapes since their first full band album, Zentropy, erupted in New York’s DIY music scene in 2014. It is the brainchild of Greta Kline whose sweet songwriting comes across as less twee but more sincere. They ar =e touring with Squarehead whose previous claim to fame which is now claim to notoriety is that Morrissey once attended one of their gigs. Don’t let that put you off these garage poppers though

Thursday Tunes, Roy Duffy

Different Now by Chastity Belt.
Been obsessed with this album for the last year but just realised the other day that the video is taking the piss out of grunge supergroup Temple of the Dog’s “Hunger Strike” video. Very funny when you watch them back to back.

Being Alive by Frankie Cosmos.
A beautiful song from their new album with an equally cool video made by our friend Daniel Martin. See can you spot the Squarehead T-shirt.

Sisters Jeans by Rolling Blackouts CF.
Seems like Australia is the place to be for good guitar oriented indie rock. Should have moved there at the start of the recession I guess.

Hopefulessness by Courtney Barnett.
Another Aussie. Favourite song on the new album and the first so it took a long time to make it to the end of the album as I kept going back to this one.

No by Vivian Girls.
From their first record which came out 10 years ago this September which is insane. Heavily influential band on the early songwriting of our band.
