the stars were underground
Hope Collective and Irish pop archive returned to the subject of the underground venue on Dame street to discuss those vital early days of people playing music and having a platform to express themselves. We lined up a panel of people who all started in that wonderful basement venue but are still performing three decades later.
Brian Mooney– the idiots, the next new low
Julie McDonnell – the Would Be’s
Paul Page – the Whipping Boy, sentimental tourist
Bernie Furlong – the Golden Horde
John Brereton – Lord John White, Sack
Daragh McCarthy – Babysnakes, the mighty Avon junior
Frank Rynne – Babysnakes
Paul Cullen – Donnybrook Garage, Mangled Ferret
Panel 1 featured Frank Rynne, Darragh McCarthy, Paul Cullen and Bernie Furlong talking about those early gigs
We then had time for some music from Brian Mooney of next new low (formerly of the idiots) and Julie from the Would-Bes.
Our second panel saw Brian and Julie stay on stage and be joined by Paul Page from the Whipping Boy and John Brereton from Lord John White \ Sack
It’s not a re-union but more of a rekindling.
Benefit for Streetlink homeless project. Admission was free but €350 was raised on the night.
Grand Social, Sunday October 12
