The Ex at Cafe Oto
Gigs that The Ex participate in are not just an opportunity for a band to get up and entertain. Their nights are curated packages. For tonight, the first night of 3 in Cafe Oto London, it feels like something special is going on.

Before the ex entertain with their latest record we get singer Arnold performing as part of a duo, we get twin guitarists Andy and Terrie teaming up with a Saxophonist to work together improvising whatever sound comes next. We also get drummer Kat teaming up with a sax player and a painter to create an interactive experience of art and improvisation. This is no ordinary gig.

Of course we also get Stewart Lee doing some comedy and getting the crowd warmed up for the “75th anniversary of the anarcho punk legends The Ex”.
We laughed and then took a breath. You need to, to fully experience what is on offer. The new album sees the band just as vibrant and energetic as ever. Songs that are social commentaries on where we are at, rhythms pounding along with angular guitars and an explosion of sound on stage. At times Arnold plays this gentle riff over and over again while we are memorised with the offering.
This is no ordinary gig, it is a recital of righteousness and The Ex are still leading the field in intelligent noise for the 21st Century.
