Half a century ago, in the meat packing district of South Brunswick, New Jersey the Charlemagnes hung out in the garages of new Jersey and wrote some songs. They played out the outskirts of that scene for a while, moved to South Bronx, recorded some songs and when punk rock broke moved to the UK.
5 decades later their debut album has been released and the band are playing some gigs. It’s not just a nostalgia trip as the songs are getting an airing once more with the orignial guitarists son now taking up the role of vocalists. These are people who have brought a carefree attitude to these garage slabs.
