Neurosis
An Undying Love For A Burning World
Neurot Recordings

A lot can happen in a decade, global events like famines, wars, drought, hurricanes and world leaders being elected or in some cases not can paint the world in a different picture 10 years on.

A lot can happen musically over 10 years as technology develops. We will never be at a worse point for AI than we are now might be a rallying cry but can music always be better?

Neurosis are back with a rebirth but that sound is very much still theirs. I love, when I’m traveling to work on the train, playing a little game looking at the motionless expression on peoples faces as they begin to face the day ahead. Many dreading leaving their home and entering into a day they just don’t want to experience. I look at people and imagine what sort of music they listen to. Thankfully there’s no first prize in this game. An even better version is in Winter nights coming home after a day of it. Many are happy to be getting back to familiarity of family after serving time doing something they would rather not be pursuing. The darkness, the cold and many times the dampness in the air gives a feeling in itself. We troop onto the train, hoping to find some solitude in space as different music rings through our ears. This is the journey for Neurosis. The noise from the wheels crashing along the train tracks as the train slowly leaves the station is the basis for the soundtrack. In the darkness there are shadows from trees as the train rolls along. These shadows hit the windows like skeletons screaming to get in. That is the feeling from this Neurosis record. As the train drives through industrial heartland, grey and smokey Neurosis are expressing their love for the beauty in this industry.

If a ghost train wasn’t just a fairground attraction Neurosis would be the soundtrack in the speakers, fed through the train at top volume as ghostly figures desolate and gaunt made their way through the carriages. Hypnotic and scary we are made to suffer emotionally as this music is an anti-paean, not expressing joy or triumph but a stark reminder of the mess we have made as humans in this existence.
