Pet Shop Punks Interrobang return with a new record. This time round it’s not as much agit-pop as agit-electro from former Chumbawamba front man Dunstan Bruce. Dunstan and his side kick Griff have created a dance record for the 21st Century middle aged militants.
They are still screaming for a better world but are looking for us to dance our way through it. We have got to rethink everything they exclaim. Music, art and creativity are the weapons of interrobang to challenge our thoughts and believe in a better future.
We interviewed Griff a few years back and you can read it here The bands sound has expanded more into a dance vein which leads to a valuable live experience. The album captures a moment of personal, political and cultural emergency. Together, Bruce and Griff reject the idea that political music must be po-faced, worthy or joyless. Pleasure becomes fuel here. This is music that understands that urgency doesn’t have to shout. It’s insistent yet alluring. Rhythm becomes rhetoric and the dancefloor becomes a place of resistance, connection and rejuvenation. The philosophy underpinning the album is simple and unapologetic: if you can’t dance to it, it’s not our revolution, and a bop around your front room while listening to music is no bad thing is it?
