Homebase
Close to Something
I’m one of the lucky ones. Each morning I wake up in the same bed in a home that I own. In our front garden there’s a small wall. It stretches along the side of the garden from our hall door to the front gate. It was built by my Dad and his friend. Neither of them are around any more and every time I see it I think of them laughing and putting this small wall together. It’s not even 2 foot high but it has everything a wall needs. Holes for drainage, reinforcements throughout and even some plastic pipe to ensure water escapes. The two men knew what they were doing.
If I tried to build such a thing it would be a pale imitation. It might look like it should be a wall but would crumble on first inspection. Homebase are the bricklayers of hardcore pop punk. Full of soaring Melodie’s these 5 songs drop and start at the right time. Songs are sung in that tuneful heartfelt manner, at time the sing song is sung from a distance, at others they are soaring with the guitars. Drums are beaten with urgency and the speed goes from blistering to mi tempo in the strum of a guitar chord.
This is the New York punks second ep and you know these are no starters. This wall won’t crumble. If you like fast pop hardcore with huge melody then this is absolutely for you.
