Wow what a week for gigs. Sometimes you get these weeks, where you wonder can you fit them all in. Aonghus McEvoy is launching his new record om Wednesday in the Workmans Cellar. this record is one for all who enjoy musical soundscapes. Also playing on the night are Fulacht Fiadh It’s punk rock weekend with Veteran punk legends The Exploited, who still proclaim “Punk’s Not Dead” since that records release 4 decades ago, playing in The Grand Social. Also playing are Lee Harveys and new Mayo band The Deadbeats.
The following night in Bohs Bar sees the We Shall Overcome Weekend kicking off with Chimers, Parker and the last mile all playing in a benefit for Aoibhneas. It is the return of Hope Collective in promoting a gig and it has brought me right back to all the stress and strain of doing such a thing. Hopefully it will be worth it as Parker are bringing their pop punk A-game from Derry, Chimers are bringing their well executed noise rock from Kilkenny via Australia and the last mile are bringing their tunes from Montreal. All in the effort to raise some much needed funds to assist those on the receiving end of Domestic Abuse. This is what our punk rock should be. For those interested The Stranglers are playing with the Membranes on the same night in the Olympia
The following night in Sean O’Casey theatre 2 members of Trouble Pilgrims, Pete Holidai and Tony St Ledger are playing a night of Dublin songs with Phelim Drew opening proceedings. Again it is a benefit (this time for the SAOL project) and shows musicians ready to help out in times of need.
Finally on Sunday, while I will be in Tullamore with the Last mile and Parker The Thrash Blues will be playing in the Wild Duck to launch their new record
