This fourth album from the band rocks out more than it’s previous 3 and sees the band as strong as ever.
Play of the day brings trouble
This is not the sound of the crowd. It’s certainly not the sound of the spirit level on immaculately, generically identikit city streets. This is the sound of the cracks in the concrete, the splinter in the grandfather clock. The flower in the dustbin. The torn page, full of wisdom, trampled underfoot in the rain.
Play of the day sees the descendents rise again
the new record from reconvened band isn't quite full of new tracks. Their sound was genre defining at the time. The perfect bridge between Ramones, new wave and hardcore. The Descendents were a band that spoke to people for their ordinary lifestyle. It wasn’t rock and roll, it wasn’t hedonistic. It was just good tunes played fast by good people.
Play of the day will shatter your ears
Grit are from that community, one that thrives on interaction and belief in a better world. They proudly belong and this record is an important part of that community
Play of the day to give your heart joy
The guitars jangle along and there's tunes and niceness layered throughout. The band's name translates as heart-joy which certainly suits the heart warming sounds here.
Play of the day is very Partisan
It’s easy to know 40 years later how relevant something really was when the needle hits the record and you are brought back in a time capsule.
Play of the day is down by the Canal
There is a lot of Chicago punk rock DNA in here manifesting itself as aggression draped in burning, melancholic guitar leads and an unpredictable hazy melodic wash.
Play of the day is not Toxic
Toxic Waste wore their hearts in their sleeves and warzone eventually ended. So did the open conflict but the underlying reasons haven’t changed that much. The streets of Dublin and Belfast have more colours now. Things have progressed but still we look to Capital for direction when maybe there could be a better way.
Play of the day – well it’s Rudimentary
Rudimentary Peni forced you to listen to them, always a little bit uncomfortable and unsure. Nick Blinkos art was always a joy as you could examine it while the music was on and find something new each time.
Play of the day needs no leaps
udge along during the day wondering about covid numbers I get a feeling of excitement knowing I’m coming home to listen to this. It has brought genuine joy into my life in recent times. Hop on the dance floor, enjoy and remember that world still needs changing.
